A Cy Young Award winner on the baseball field, and now a cancer-survivor off it, one of the San Diego’s favorite sons is set to present the 10th-Annual Randy Jones Leap for Independence 5K on Saturday, Feb. 29th at 8:30 a.m. at Crown Point Park, Mission Bay.
The family event, which includes a scenic run/walk around Mission Bay Park has become a must-attend staple on the San Diego event calendar now for a full decade, and benefits Home of Guiding Hands, which has been committed to providing quality community support, critical housing, and life-skills training for children and adults with development disabilities for 52 years.
“After battling cancer a couple of years ago, I am more excited about this 10th-Anniversary Run/Walk than I have ever been before,” said the popular Jones, who thrilled fans and won baseball’s highest-pitching honor in 1976. “To see this community come together once again and help Home of Guiding Hands touches my heart. I have been impressed for years with their ability to help children and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. They provide those who need it, a purpose and don’t focus on what they can’t do, but what they can do.”
