These puppies were transferred to Rancho Coastal Humane Society from one of our local rescue partners through Friends of County Animal Shelters (FOCAS.) We got the mommy and her litter of TWELVE puppies.

Mommy Diyosa (dee-OH-suh) is a 2-1/2-year-old, 37-pound, Hound mix

It’s a Tagalog (tuh-GAA-luhg) word that means Goddess. She earned that title!

These puppies are 6 weeks old. They appear to be Hound mix, but we have not run DNA tests.

There are 4 sisters and 8 brothers.

They are NOT available now. They should start to become available for adoption in about 2 weeks.

They might be “players” on the Fox 5 Puppy Bowl and available to join their new “teams” possibly as early as Super Bowl Sunday.
They’ll need trainers and lifetime contracts with no-trade clause.

How does a 37-pound mommy dog care for 12 puppies?
With help from our animal care attendants and volunteers.

There are 8 seats at the diner, but 12 customers who want to eat at the same time. Whenever she moves, the customers follow her.

Now that the puppies are a little older, we can put mommy into a different kennel from time to time to give her a break.

Vaccinations are up to date. Pets adopted from RCHS are spayed or neutered before they go home.
Each pet has a REGISTERED microchip.
If their new homes are in the jurisdiction of San Diego Humane Society’s Department of Animal Services, dogs go home with a FREE one-year license.

Adoption fees:  $245 for puppies under 6 months.
$145 for adult dogs older than 6 months.
$75 for senior dogs more than 7 years old.

They’re puppies! They will act like puppies and do puppy things.

My puppy cries, whines, trips, nips, jumps, pees on the carpet, and doesn’t know her name. WHAT HAVE WE GOTTEN INTO?”

That’s normal for a new puppy. Remember… it’s temporary.
Like human babies, they’re learning everyday…so it’s never too soon to teach them the rules. Start with a routine and stick to it.

Get started on the “right paw.”
* Relax. Stick to basics. A schedule for meals, trips outside, play, and naps.
* Socialization and exposure to noises, surfaces, and other people.
* Teach the kids how to handle the puppy and supervise them.
* Older kids can help with the leash, training, and tricks.

Some “Don’ts.”
* No dragging by the leg, the collar, or a leash.
* No feeding from the table.
* No spanking.
